Celebrating the Women in My Life

Women's History Month is a great time to appreciate women throughout the history of civilization and women who have made a direct impact on our lives. I think of my grandmothers, my mother and mother-in-law, and friends and mentors who have influenced my life. In fact, I keep seeing tangible actions of women supporting other women by supporting and uplifting each other and think, "we are wonder women when we support wonderful women."

My Grandma G, my dad's mom, never learned to drive. During one election, my grandpa told her he would drive her to vote if she voted for his candidate of choice. She simply said, "I'll walk".

My Grandma C, my mom's mom, was a hard worker. When my grandfather was in a terrible trucking accident and could no longer work, grandma decided to buy the restaurant where she worked. Her restaurant was located in a small farming community and became the gathering spot for the residents of that small town. She was up six days a week at the crack of dawn to open her restaurant and was generally the only employee.

Go, Grandmas!

My mom was my biggest cheerleader and a creative, energetic, dynamic dreamer who made life special. She once told me that she always felt like she was being called to do something big in her life. She frequently touched base with friends, she encouraged them, and for those who were house-bound, she would take them on excursions. She was a big deal to many people.

One of my favorite bosses was a mentor and remains a friend. She gave me my first job in IT training and support and always believed in me and my abilities and encouraged stretch assignments.

I am lucky to have so many women supporting me and providing examples along the way. Thank you uplifting and supporting women!
